SUMMER COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Beginning Four-Harness Weaving

In this course the beginning student will learn basic weaving theory and techniques. No previous weaving experience is necessary. Topics covered will include designing and planning a project, winding a warp, threading the loom, pattern drawdowns, and fulling. During the course the students will weave a twill sampler and either a scarf or a set of two placemats (time permitting). Bring a notebook, pen or pencil, tape measure, and scissors to the first class. Looms will be provided. The cost for materials for the scarf or placemats is not included in the course fee.

Independent Weaving

Learn new techniques, do a group study project or work on your own project. You will have access to expert guidance, design assistance, and an extensive reference library of weaving books, magazines, and weaving samples. Looms are provided.

Make-up Policy: If you have notified me in advance by phone that you will be missing a class, you may make it up by attending another class within that semester, but only two classes can be substituted in this way.


Scarf in a Day

Come try your hand at weaving and go home with a beautiful alpaca scarf in natural color stripes. The loom will be warped and ready for you to sit down and learn how easy and satisfying weaving is. The scarf takes approximately four hours to weave, which can be done all at once or in two sessions. Cost is $55 – call and schedule your mini-weaving lesson today!

* * *Summer Camp * * *

Come learn to weave or continue weaving with a new project. Create your own design for your project, choose your own yarns and colors. Learn to wind a warp, thread the loom and weave an exciting project. Lots of options available to fit busy schedules and lots of fun!

• For children in third grade and older

• Maximum class size is six students

• No previous weaving experience is necessary. The students will wind the warp, thread
the loom, and weave a project of their choice. Looms will be provided.

• At least 15 hours are required for a beginner to complete a scarf or another project of choice. See the chart below for other project ideas.

• Choose morning, afternoon, or full-day sessions. Sign up for every day of the week, or the same day or two of the week, or whatever suits your schedule best. A minimum of two hours per session is needed to make progress on the weaving.

• Cost: $10 per hour, plus cost of yarns. Bring snacks or a sack lunch, as appropriate for the times scheduled.

• After-camp care is available from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm for $20 per day.

Weaving is a flexible activity - select the days and times that fit your schedule! Half days, full days, all week or every other Tuesday, whatever your requirements.
